URL encode and decode

Convert text to percent-encoding for safe use in URLs and query strings, and decode percent-encoded strings back to readable text.

Your text is processed in your browser as you type. It is not sent to ToolsNest servers or stored after you leave the page.

How to use the URL Encoder / Decoder

  1. 1Paste your text or encoded string.
  2. 2Select Encode or Decode.
  3. 3Copy the result.

Supported formats and limits

  • Encoding follows encodeURIComponent rules: safe characters stay, everything else is percent-encoded.
  • Decoding also converts '+' back to a space, as used in query strings.
  • Malformed percent sequences are reported with a clear error.

Common uses

  • Building a query string by hand.
  • Decoding a copied URL parameter.
  • Escaping a value for a redirect link.

Frequently asked questions

When should I encode a whole URL?

Encode individual parameter values, not the whole URL — encoding the entire address breaks its :// and / structure.
