Frequently asked questions
Why is my PNG barely smaller?
PNG is lossless, so the browser cannot trade quality for size. Convert to WebP (keeps transparency) or JPEG for much larger savings.
Why did the file get bigger?
Already-optimised images can grow when re-encoded at high quality. Lower the quality or keep the original — the tool shows the size so you can decide.
Is a target size guaranteed?
No. The tool searches for the highest quality under your target and reduces dimensions if needed. If it still cannot reach the target it tells you.
